T.J. and Rachel Meers, Owners

Our company began way back in 1981 when Richard Brown and his wife, Beverly, started the Richard Brown Auction and Real Estate Company. Primarily an auction house for land in Alabama and Tennessee, the company grew in stature and eventually moved away from auctions and into development and homebuilding. They started with a few subdivisions, eventually changing the name to Richard Brown Homes and Land in the early 1990’s. By this time Richard had expanded even further and was building subdivisions, numerous individual homes, rental properties, and commercial buildings.

Rachel worked with her dad since she was a child; learning every aspect of the business. By the time she and TJ met at Auburn, she was already well versed in the day-to-day operation of the company. TJ joined her father in 2002, after graduating from Auburn, as a construction manager and soon had both his real estate and home building licenses. Rachel and TJ were soon married and she came on board full time in 2003 after she graduated from Auburn. They opened a second company, Brown & Meers Homes, in 2004. Things were going great.

Then tragedy struck on February 5, 2006, when Richard suddenly passed away. This left Beverly, Rachel, and TJ to carry the company forward. Through the trials of the next 3 1/2 years we emerged as a stronger and more focused company. Though the path was not always easy, one thing this experience has taught us is that we love homebuilding and we love our homebuyers.

That’s the way it has always been since 1981 – family owned and operated, where you can meet your homebuilder face to face. Richard was a God-loving, hardworking family man who took great pride in his work. He passed these same characteristics on to Rachel and TJ, who continue his dedication to building a safe, quality homes at affordable prices. Our reputation of excellence was built on that philosophy which has led to the construction of more than 1,000 homes (and counting) in North Alabama. We’re not just selling you a home; we’re selling you our family. And we will be around for many, many more years.

Please accept our invitation to call or come by. We would welcome the opportunity to help with your new home.
